We, the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, a community of Roman Catholic Women Religious, were founded in Manitowoc County in 1869. The first Sisters were five young women, strong in faith, who were drawn together to follow St. Francis of Assisi’s Gospel way of life.
The qualities these women embraced inform our community today.
- Simplicity of lifestyle
- Vibrant faith in a loving God
- Joyful acceptance of poverty
- Love for the Church
- Selfless dedication to the service of others
Today, we number over 300 Sisters who
serve in states across America – Wisconsin, Arizona, Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska and Ohio.
Our Motherhouse, Holy Family Convent, borders Silver Lake on Highway 151. We, the
Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity sponsor
Silver Lake College and
Holy Family Memorial Network.
